Simone Biles attracts a star-studded audience in the Paris Olympics.

American artistic gymnast Simone Arianne Biles Owens[4] (née Biles; born March 14, 1997)[5]. She is regarded as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time and has seven Olympic medals and thirty World Championship medals, making her one of the most decorated gymnasts in history[6].[7] She is tied with Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals won by an American gymnast, having received seven medals. She is the ninth-most decorated female Olympian gymnast.[8]

Individual gold medals in the all-around, vault, and floor, bronze on the balance beam, and gold with the United States team—dubbed the "Final Five"—were earned by Biles at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.[9] She was expected to win at least four of the six gold medals up for grabs at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, but she withdrew from the majority of the competition because she had "the twisties," a momentary lack of awareness of her surroundings while performing twisting sequences. On the balance beam, she took home a bronze medal and a silver medal with her team.

In addition to winning gold medals for the United States in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, and 2023, Biles is a six-time World all-around champion (2013–2015, 2018–2019, 2023), six-time World floor exercise champion (2013–2015, 2018–2019, 2023), four-time World balance beam champion (2014–2015, 2019, 2023), two-time World vault champion (2018–2019), and nine-time United States national all-around champion (2013–2016, 2018–2019, 2021, 2023–2024). In addition, she has won three World Bronze Medals (in 2013 and 2018 on the balance beam, and in 2015 on the vault) and four World Silver Medals (in 2013–2014, 2023, and uneven bars).

In 2019, Biles broke the record for the most gymnastics World Championship medals earned; she surpassed Vitaly Scherbo's 23 World medals with her 24 and 25 medals won at the competition. Since then, Biles has won five more World medals, bringing her total to thirty. She is the sixth woman to win an individual all-around title at both the World Championships and the Olympics, and the first since Lilia Podkopayeva in 1996 to hold both titles concurrently. She also holds the record for the most World all-around titles (6). Since Daniela SilivaÈ™ in 1988, Biles is the first female gymnast to win a medal in every event at an Olympic Games. She is also the tenth female gymnast and the first American female gymnast to win a World medal in every event.World Cup tournaments.

She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Joe Biden in 2022.[10] She broke Alfred Jochim's 90-year record for the most U.S. gymnastics titles in 2023 when she won her eighth one.[11][12] Biles has won Comeback of the Year once (2024) and three times (2017, 2019, 2020) as the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year.[13]
